Last year—it was a whirlwind of life, school drop-offs, messy schedules, husband traveling for work leaving me solo parenting, and feeling like I had nothing to wear (and let’s be honest… the kids weren’t exactly cooperative at the time either 🙃). I had planned a hundred other things, but booking our family photos somehow fell to the bottom of the list.
It felt like too much.
But something deep down whispered, "You’ll want these later." And so, I booked the session anyway.
Spoiler: I’m so glad I did. Like, really glad.
Those photos? They turned out to be some of my all-time favorites. Not because everything went perfectly (it didn’t—we had a meltdown and snack bribes and we brought the dog😅), but because they captured us. Right there, in that season. A little chaotic. A lot of love. And so much personality.
As a Houston family photographer, I’ve seen it time and time again—parents second-guessing whether it’s “worth it” this year. Maybe it’s the toddler tantrums, the wardrobe stress, or just not feeling photo-ready. Trust me, I get it.
But here’s what I’ve learned: photos become more valuable over time. The tiny hand holding yours, the gap-toothed grin, the way your child fits just so in your arms—they change fast. You blink, and it's different.
That year we almost skipped? It now holds some of our most cherished memories, beautifully captured and displayed in our home. The golden light in Terry Hershey Park, the candid giggles… they remind me how important it is to just show up—messy hair and all.
