Mother's Day is Coming!

Mother's Day is the day we get to celebrate and honor the women in our lives who have raised us, loved us, and supported us. AND it can also be an overwhelming day filled with obligations, stress, and expectations. If you're a mom, you know it's easy to feel like you're constantly giving and never taking a moment for yourself. That's why a couple years ago I started spending the day before Mother's Day in a hotel by myself overnight! 🎉🎉

A Solo Hotel Stay? On Mother's Day?

I know it sounds counterintuitive to spend time away from your family before Mother's Day, but hear me out:

  • A hotel stay provides a change of scenery and a break from the daily routine. Mama, you're likely used to the hustle and bustle of daily life, which can be both physically and mentally exhausting. A hotel stay is an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and to relax in a peaceful and serene environment. This can be especially beneficial for mothers who work full-time or have young children at home.

  • Staying in a hotel gives you the chance to indulge in some much-needed self-care. Raise your hand if you tend to prioritize the needs of your families above your own 🤚 Neglecting our own physical and emotional well-being is harmful for everyone! Take advantage of the hotel amenities and pamper yourself with a spa treatment, a long soak in the bathtub, or a room-service meal (that you can eat while it's still hot!). Taking time to prioritize your own needs can help you feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the challenges of motherhood with renewed energy.
  • Spending Mother's Day in a hotel by yourself provides an opportunity for reflection and introspection. Motherhood is the most amazing, rewarding experience, and it's also one of the hardest things I've ever done. It's essential to take time to reflect on our experiences, successes, and struggles. A hotel stay can offer a chance to disconnect from distractions and to spend time journaling, meditating, or simply enjoying some quiet time alone. This can help you gain clarity and perspective on your life, your goals, and your aspirations as a mother.

  • Lastly, a hotel stay can be an excellent opportunity for quality time with yourself. Have you ever reached the end of the day and feel like if you hear "mom, mom, mom" one more time you're going to explode? Do you get touched out? I definitely do!! A hotel stay can provide a chance to reconnect with yourself, to enjoy your own company, and to engage in activities that bring you joy. Whether it's reading a book, watching a movie, or taking a leisurely stroll, spending time alone can help you feel more grounded and centered. Personally, I like to bring my cross stitching and binge whatever bad Netflix series I want!

Where to Stay

I usually stay in the JW Marriott in Downtown Houston. The rooms are cozy and they have spa bathtub for soaking! Not to mention amazing views of downtown. I usually stay in and order room service because I don't want to talk to anyone for 24 hours ha! but if you wanted to get out you're surrounded by amazing walkable dining options like Finn Hall or you can grab a glass of wine at La Carafe.

Another hotel suggestion is the Four Seasons Hotel Houston. This five-star hotel has a rooftop pool, and an amazing spa that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It is located in the heart of downtown Houston, which means you'll be just steps away from some of the city's best restaurants and shops.
